TEMPO Mission, Members, History
|

|
Our mission:
TEMPO is an organization encouraging the advancement of women to executive positions in business, public service, academia and the arts.
Our members:
TEMPO membership is comprised of approximately 270 women of executive and leadership positions in the Madison area community.
Our history:
The first TEMPO was formed by a handful of managers in 1975 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1981, Madison, Wisconsin had its own chapter, too.
TEMPO was created to break down barriers and to weave women executives into the fiber of the community in order to:
- Make them and others more influential through supporting and empowering each other;
- Attract the attention of the power structure to the pool of talented and accomplished women available in the community;
- Make TEMPO itself a power in the community and thereby make it easier for each of its members to attain positions of power and influence in the community.
Organizationally, the first step was to construct a membership roster to include:
- Those women who had already "arrived" and who were part of the power structure;
- Those who held positions of influence but who were not necessarily part of the "inner circle," and;
- Those women of talent, drive and ambition who had the potential for being giants in the community and who could ensure the ongoing influence of TEMPO.
Designed neither as a social club, nor as a service club, nor a women's club per se, TEMPO continues to grow, adapt and change while staying true to its mission of supporting, empowering, and mentoring leadership women.

"TEMPO is an opportunity to socialize with long-time friends and meet new friends. It's stimulating...mind-awakening. It's learning new ways to live and think. All of us are role models for each other."
TEMPO is a circle of circles.
