Art, Anthropology & Activism

Tuesday, May 7

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Marzen, Integrated Art Group’s Showroom and Gallery--2345 Atwood Avenue

The TEMPO Madison DEI Committee is hosting an immersive evening at Margaret LeMay's Marzen Gallery with UW Artist in Residence Marlon Hall. Marlon makes tables to make meals as an art practice. At the center of these tables are reclaimed doors made of native wood from the communities where he finds himself. He invites to the table a cross-pollination of people to engage in the beauty intrinsic to being human. Original musical composition, rich culinary art, and intentionally designed conversations drive a night of wonder experienced by people who are different and share a heart for the community.

The evening includes a family-style vegetarian dinner; music curated and performed by Hanah Jon Taylor, featuring a duet with Max Dyre, a Symphony Cellist from Houston; poetry; meditation and, of course, a lively conversation – the only ask is that people do not talk about what they do rather who they are.

Marzen’s exhibition that evening will include a selection of art from Vox Polpuli, Barry Roal Carlsen will do an artist talk about the art in the exhibition.

Attendees are asked to bring a relic of some sort that they can share stories about with the group. There will be a photographer and/or videographer at this event.

Registration is $25 and includes a family-style meal. The event seating is limited to 12 people.
